So uh, yeah, as you may have noticed, I have returned (again, nobody cares). Did a double header this weekend, took a total of around 21 hours, got a bunch of good quotes, and learned a very valuable lesson: If you know there's gonna be a vampire, and you find a room with a fresh, unmarked corpse in it, let the archer fill it with daylight, don't (as the tank) march right up and try to decapitate the fucking thing.
So uh yeah everyone who cares (all 3 of you) already knows this, but I'm heading up north in about a half hour for the only Pathfinder session I'm gonna get this summer (although granted, it'll be a double-header), gonna be basically incommunicado (or at least off the internet (tumblr) at large) until sometime Sunday evening. It's been too long...
Pffft.
Yeah hey. So. I recently had a dream about my Pathfinder character, Garhan, and it was super awesome, and totally clarified his life story up till the point where he is now - adventuring around with a bunch of cool peeps - and everything. I felt like I should write this out, complete with a few illustrations. But hey, feel free to skip this in case you're not interested at all. 8'''''D
The story's quite long so it's under the cut!
First off, Garhan is a tiefling. To people who don't know Pathfinder, this means he's a person (in this case a human) with evil outsider heritage. This includes demons, devils, etc.
Garhan's great grandparents were both tieflings, the other with a pure devil heritage, and the other with mixed rakshasa heritage. Anyway, they had a son, who was also a tiefling. Their son, Garhan's grandfather, got together with a normal human girl. And their daughter, Garhan's mom, was all human. The tiefling heritage in her "skipped a genearation" and she was all normal human. Garhan's father was all human too. ...So, the couple was a bit... Surprised when they had a son with a tail and hooves.
That's Garhan when he was about ten, how sweet.
Garhan's mother had been orphaned so nobody knew her father had been a tiefling. Well... Long story short, Garhan's childhood wasn't all that easy with the villagers being always very suspicious of him. Garhan's mother was the only one who really liked the boy. His father had better and worse days, but he was almost always accusing his wife for this horrible fate that had ruined the family's life.
Nothing overly horrible happened for the first ten years of Garhan's life, though, until his mother died because of an ilness. Garhan's body temperature is higher than your average human's because of his tiefling-ness, so the ilness didn't get to him.
Losing his wife didn't make Garhan's father any happier, and it wasn't long before he died too, in an accidental housefire after a confrontation with his son.
Garhan was now alone.
Now he's 14.
The villagers weren't going to let him die, though.
Now being an orphan, Garhan became the village's goatherder. He herded the goats and was out of sight most of the time, and as an exchange the villagers gave him food and overall kept him alive. They still weren't super fond of the boy, but he had still been a part of the village for over ten years, so it's not like they'd leave the boy in the woods for the wolves, right?
This goatherding thing went on for a while, until one day, when Garhan was about 14 years old, he came across a strange talking goat in the forest. This goat was Calanthe, who would soon become the boy's familiar.
And now he's about 16.
This weird goat, Calanthe, told Garhan about all kinds of mysterious things. Magic. It sounded so very exciting, a lot more exciting than being a goatherder for the rest of his life!
Garhan was old enough to be able to run a household of his own now, and after another wave of illness in the village, a few houses were left empty. So Garhan moved into one of them with Calanthe to learn how to be a witch. Very importantly, Garhan also invested on a cat at this time, because a cat is the most important thing in a household! Keeps the rats off.
Garhan spent a lot of time learning magic from Calanthe and overall establishing more reputation as the "creepy young man living alone with his animals" in the village. A lot of people suspected the cat would be his familiar, though it was just a normal cat, really. Called mr. Whiskers.
And now he's around 17. And I know, seventeen-year old boys don't have beards. Please take notice that because of his tiefling blood, Garhan ages faster than normal humans. |D
So! After Garhan had learned enough secrets of witchery, he decided to start adventuring around! It would be amazing to go to new places, and maybe, just maybe, lift that stigma of being a horrible freak of nature that had always followed him around.
And this is his present time, really. Adventuring around with Calanthe the goat and a bunch of coolkids.
Technically Garhan owns two houses in his childhood village, the one he lived in, and the one that's... A burned pile of wood. Though he's told the people in the village they don't have to keep those reserved for him, because he might never come back. Mr. Whiskers is also somewhere in the village, hunting rats and whatevs.
Hey, big thank yous to anyone who read that! 83 Hope you had fun reading about Garhan's life.
