Beautiful morning in the @miamibeachgarden . Checking on the hives, making sure they're queen right, and settled to their new homes. On Tuesday, we were losing light fast when transferring them from a NUC to an 8-frame, and I couldn't spot either queen. OK, now, let's play #findthequeen since that's was part of my Saturday. I did my first inspection of the over-wintered hives today. I have everything from eggs to hatched out brood. There's a bunch of left over honey and growing stores of pollen! If you see the queen, tap her twice! As @girlnextdoorhoney would point out, the queen only mates at the beginning of her life and will never leave the hive unless the hive swarms in subsequent years. She will leave with half of the bees and start a new colony, leaving a virgin queen to mate and start the process anew! (unless she doesn't make it back, then there could be problems.)
