Like they used to warn me and some other autistic kids in special ed before there was a fire drill and I was grateful for it at the time but like. It does essentially mean it never worked as a proper drill for us. Like you'd think of all the noises people want us to get used to that would be really important to plan for. Like I'm never going to be okay with the loud noise but give me a procedure and let me practice it properly?

Did anyone else ever have an elementary school teacher who tricked you into thinking a fire drill was a real fire?

It happened to me in fifth grade, with a substitute teacher. She didn't lie to us, but she chose her words carefully. As she lined us up after the alarm rang, again and again she repeated "This is a REAL fire drill. This is a REAL fire drill."

She had to have known what she was doing. Why else would she keep saying the word "real" if not to trick us? There's no such thing as a pretend fire drill. She had to have known that not all 10-year-olds realize that the word "drill" inherently means it's only practice, with no real fire. She must have been trying to make us think there was a real fire so we'd be sure to follow all the instructions.

Did anyone else have a teacher who did that too?
