Long Distance Fire Education
I didn’t plan on blogging about this, but I have a picture that goes with it (yay for visuals!). So what the hell?
On Monday, I helped Dayna Hilton (from firesafetydogs.com) with her fire safety presentation. She also offers presentations via Skype. I think this is a great use of technology to reach a broader audience. As with the last presentation I helped with, she did a Skype session with a classroom in India. I’m always fascinated by how polite and well-mannered the children are.
Originally I didn’t know that it was happening. My instructor mentioned it in class and I figured since I was there for my EMT class, I could help out. Since it’s in India, we have to do the session at 10 pm local time. The timing is unfortunate because Molly is tired and the children don’t get to see much of her.
During the Q&A part of the presentation, she lets us field the children’s questions. Since I love the concept of fire prevention/education, I have fun with this. It just blows my mind that I’m seeing and interacting with children half the world away.
