Please Be My Obsession. Are You My Guardian?
The way Dante came to be wasn't naturally occurring, it was forced hybridisation between Plasmius and Phantom. That being said, his obsession was a... complicated matter.
Ghosts need their obsession, Ember needs her music, Skulker needs to hunt, Box ghost needs his boxes, Danny needs to protect. You get the idea. Without their obsessions they become a shell of themselves. This is actually how Dante's timeline got destroyed.
Vlad's obsession was Maddie Nightingale, he had lost her a long time ago, which is why Plasmius took over Phantom so easily since he only lost his obsession of giving protection recently. Put one fresh strawberry next to a molding one, the mold spreads to fast for the fresh fruit to fight back.
Anyway, Dante wasn't sure what his obsession was, or even if he had one, people have theorised that it's a combination of Plasmius's and Phantom's, Maddie Nightingale and protection. But it wasn't true because Plasmius' obsession was because to him, she was the love of his life and Danny was her son so that counteracted that, then there was Phantom's protection obsession but Plasmius' general distaste for all life other than Maddie counter acted that.
So to him, he didn't have an obsession... Until he and his siblings had moved to Gotham and he saw him. Nightwing. All he could think about was how beautiful he was, especially while he was fighting. So when Dante went out of his way to make sure Nightwing didn't get hurt, it was obvious what had happened.
Dante had fallen in love and he realised that the theory that his obsession was bother Plasmius' and Phantom's wasn't wrong, it just wasn't directed towards Maddie, it was directed to the one he loves.
The entire Batfam was confused (well, most of them were confused, Jason was enjoying the show) on why Dick suddenly has a guardian angel, they tried so fucking hard to find who it is but every single shot they got of him was just a static over his face, only Dick had seen his face.
Of course, Dick also wanted to know who this man was. He wanted to know why and what he did for this (dangerously sexy) stranger was doing this. Not that he minded, he was rather happy that he's no longer getting yelled at by Alfred for getting a broken rib or two.
One day, Nightwing and Red Hokd were fighting Mr. Freeze and they had gotten badly injured, to the point where they struggled to move. Freeze pulled the trigger one last time only to be interrupted by two ghosts. One stood in front of the ice ray, creating an ice wall so it wouldn't hit Red Hood and only Red Hood because the other Ghost had princess-carried Nightwing out of the way
"Thanks for saving my boyfriend you jackass!" the one Nightwing knew as Phantom since he helped him out with a few missions, shouts sarcastically. "You had it handled!" Nightwing 's guardian shouts back as he placed him back on his feet.
When Nightwing looked back at Phantom, he was beating the shit out of Freeze with an ice spike, "uhm... Isn't he going a little hard on him?" he questioned "there's no point, he's still getting used to fighting people that are corporeal and he tried to hurt Red Hood, Frosty's not coming out of this without a few broken bones" Nightwing's guardian explained... Oh... He has fangs... That didn't help Nightwing's vampire romance fantasy.
"I should go now" the man said. "Hey wait, why have you been helping me?" Nightwing asks the man just takes Nightwing's hand and kisses it "a knight protects his prince" and then flies away, Phantom not far behind.
Of course, he realises that Jason knew him the entire time and it lead to Dick doing small minor shit as revenge for not telling him until Jason gave him Dante's phone number
