Things to say about the Tropical Rouge Preview (yes, it’s here!!!!)
The animation looks super fluid and bouncy, perfect for this type of season
Speaking of animation, CURE SUMMER’S TRANSFORMATION ALREADY LOOKS SO PRETTY
It seems like the relationship between Manatsu and Laura is gonna start out like Hikaru and Lala’s, where they don’t get along at first
The first villain appears to be a crab-like dude
UMMM.....????
Proscenium and chandelier setup pre-show; at the interval; post-show
(Leicester first preview)
Ok so some very quick thoughts on the UK tour of Phantom. I will post more tomorrow if people are interested...
Key point: I’d say it’s 75% replica and 25% non-replica.
- The Proscenium is pretty similar to the original, except there are cracks on the sides and I thought it would resemble during the overture but it did not. Chandelier is pretty much the restaged tour version. Auction scene pretty much the same except the auctioneer has slightly different lines when talking about the chandelier (this might have been the same as the restaged tour but I can’t remember).
- Overture is pretty much the same. A mini Proscenium assembles on the stage along with the opera boxes (these come on and off as and when needed).
- Hannibal was pretty much the same. Slave master seemed to crack his whip loads more!!
-All scenes up to AIAOY were pretty much the same. Madame giry and Andre seemed a lot more present during the il muto ballet though. No angle for AIAOY. A statue of Apollo’s Lyre appears on stage towards the back and moves forward during the reprise.
-The phantom appears in box 5, sprays sparks from his staff and the chandelier comes falling down.
-Masequrade was pretty similar except there was different choreography and I think they used the broadway lyrics.
-All other scenes were very similar. They used the Broadway lyrics for the trio wandering child scene. Killian nearly set Holly- Anne Hull on fire with the sparks!!
-Don juan. Very similar. Christine comes out with her hair in a bun and a red rose hair pin. Was different.
-Final lair - very similar. Only thing I noticed was that The phantom sang the lyrics “This is indeed an unparalleled delight. I had rarely dreamt, we’d be so blessed...” never heard these before? New? From the US? Strange.
-Other slight changes in blocking which were nice touches. I felt the Christine/Meg relationship was played up much me throughout the whole show. Madame Giry seemed to have more of a presence throughout the show too (appearing in il muto ballet, speaking/ arguing with Roaul during masquerade, confronting the phantom as he tries to flee from Don Juan).
- Costumes all fine and original thank goodness.
Overall the changes felt mostly unnecessary but didn’t detract massively from show. The cast, I felt, were great. HAH is a lovely Christine that I think will really grow into the role. Killian Donnelly is already a memorable Phantom, looking forward to seeing him develop the role. Rest of the cast were very solid.
Edit: this probs wasn’t everything, just trying to get my thoughts down. I’m going again next Friday so will see what else I spot!
