Bengali Macher Chop is a well-known Indian street food in West Bengal. The minced fish, potatoes, and aromatic spices used to make these fish croquettes give them a great taste and a crispy texture. They're great for any event as a snack or starter.
Ingredients: 500g fish fillets, deboned and finely minced. 2 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed. 2 onions, finely chopped. 2 green chilies, finely chopped. 1 teaspoon ginger paste. 1 teaspoon garlic paste. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder. 1 teaspoon cumin powder. 1 teaspoon coriander powder. 1 teaspoon garam masala powder. 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Salt to taste. Handful of fresh coriander leaves, chopped. 2 eggs, beaten. Breadcrumbs for coating. Oil for frying.
Instructions: Mash the potatoes, add the chopped onions, green chilies, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, lemon juice, salt, and chopped coriander leaves. Mix everything together in a large bowl. Make small croquettes out of the mixture that are either round or oval. After dipping each croquette in a beaten egg, cover it all over with breadcrumbs. Put oil in a deep pan and heat it over medium-low heat. Fry the croquettes one at a time until all sides are golden brown and crispy. Take it out of the oil and use paper towels to soak up the extra oil. Serve hot with your favorite chutney or sauce to dip it in.
