The Runaways season 2 (Spoilers)
OK so here’s the thing. I LOVE The Runaways. Like that comic series has to be one of my all time favorites in all of history. That being said, I’m a little torn about the Hulu TV show.
I admit to liking season one. I thought that overall it was a good season, with good actors/characters, storylines, and representation. It didn’t follow the comics exactly...but hey, when do they ever? It also had a hand in getting my favorite comic to come back into print...and for that I will always be grateful
....but like I’m not really sure about season 2. Some of the twists and turns were cool and well thought out, and like I said, I’m not too concerned with it following the comic book storyline. But the dialogue was awful and a lot of the acting was just...not there. Especially when it came to the chemistry between Gert and Chase...it was just so bad. I honest to goodness could not stand the fact that they were fighting so much. At the end of the season Chase keeps going on about loving Gert, but I didn’t see it the whole season. All they did was fight, awkwardly kiss, or weirdly stare at each other.
I understand that with so many different main characters, it’s hard to spend so much time on one specific character or pairing, but it honestly felt like Gert and Chase were the forgotten relationship with their awkward dialogue. I want them to be a real couple, but like the chemistry just wasn’t there this season.
I also do not fault the actress that plays Gert in the slightest. She is a beautiful cinnamon roll and I love her. Mr. Disney channel on the other hand was god awful. I have loved him since he played Mason on Wizards of goddamn Waverly Place, but I attribute all of their awkwardness to his lack of acting skills. Almost every line he said fell as flat as his ass and every interaction between them was as stale as the stank food they were getting out of the garbage.
I will say that the relationship between Karolina and Nico was amazing. Their characters were both so good together and apart, and both got so much storyline and relationship time. I applaud both actresses and look forward to seeing their characters again
I also really enjoyed Alex this season. I’ve always had mixed feelings about his character in the comic books, but I really think the writers gave him some much needed time in the show.
Finally, I think a lot of the dialogue sucked this season and some of the acting was just so weak, but I liked the parents performance, the storyline of the season, and I have to admit, the end of the season made up for a lot of the other trash going around. But, as someone who has always strongly loved Gert and Chase, I was a bit disappointed to see how badly they were done.
