Reader Question - "R" vs "L"

Hey SB!

Quick question: in your opinion, how long should a suit jacket be? I've noticed a trend toward jackets on the shorter side. I'm 6'3" 185lbs and have always been told I need a 40L - but I feel like a 40L, in most jackets, is just too long on me.

In my opinion, "Longs" are for 6'4 and up (unless you're going for a "cropped" cut). As a general rule of thumb, a suit jacket/blazer should cover the seat (or "ass", or "buttocks", or whatever you call it).

A contemporary jacket is generally cut so it just barely covers the entire seat - that is how I wear mine (for the most part).
