Fitbit Luxe: Quick Review
So those of you who have followed me for a while know this happens periodically where I post some initial thoughts/review of some thing I’ve gotten my hands on. All things considered, I’m usually late to the party and have probably only “upgraded” because whatever device I was using either died or is dieing.
For those who haven’t seen one...Hi! Welcome to the once every 2-3 years post where Stitch pretends she’s a Tech Reviewer for like 20 minutes.
Preface: I had a Fitbit Alta for the last 5-years. Fitbit actually replaced my gen1 Charge with it when the band snapped and exposed the actual Fitbit to the elements. It was a known design flaw they rectified with Charge 2. So, that Alta...it’s battery capacity has been erratic for the last several months. Went down from 7-10 days to 5 days, sometimes 3 days, sometimes 12-hrs.I did reach out to them for help first and Fitbit did their level best - my experience has always been good, I know that’s not the case for some.
That said: Yes, use does play a role in battery life. No I am not a heavy user. I have a fitbit for two reasons: the clock and my steps/activity tracking.
On to the quick review: This fitbit is the same general size as my Alta was but is lighter weight. I’ve actually slept with it on, not something I would ever do with it’s predecessor. It has a color screen, which is nice but wasn’t mandatory.
Highlight Features:
Steps and other Activity tracking- It tracks my YOGA! I added that in December as one of the activities and ooh boy! It’s great! Also the only way my fitbit actually registers that I’m doing a thing during those classes. (Le sigh)
Watch
Sleep tracker
Water resistant up to 50M -- the Alta was barely splash/sweat resistant. I wear this thing when I’m working in the kitchen and cleaning house so being water resistant is extra helpful. Huge upgrade but also a standard on at least the “Adult” Fitbits (Legit, I considered the Ace because it was so darn cute!)
Shows heart rate -- accurate so far but I hear it fluctuates compared to other devices, so we’ll see.
Sp02 reading based on your sleep over at least 2 nights -- dunno how accurate that is, not a reason I have a Fitbit but it’s standard now)
It thinks I’m using an elliptical when I’m just trying desperately to keep up with my walking buddy. -- Note: I tracked our walk as a walk using the activities once and will not be doing that again. Saw a map load of our usual route on my phone and no thanks. Made me extra uncomfortable but I know it’s useful for other users.
Cons:
This comes after several months of use: None so far?
Maybe the band? That’s more that I think the silicon has stretched out some but I’m not real worried about it. FitBit brand bands are like $20 or $30 and I can find decent alternatives on Amazon.
Haven’t used any of the extra stuff like “relax” or more activities than Yoga or the occasional Walk.
The alarm feature is more jarring for me than my actual alarm clock. Feeling my wrist vibrate scared the shit out of me and I just woke up enough to turn it off.
For the price point it’s not bad.
In the earlier post, I’ve shared the list of the best Fitbit charge smartwatch that one could consider buying. But, Fitbit is not the only one out there in
