Here's one of my first attempts at Scandinavian flat plane style carving. I took a pic of this lil' guy next to some salt & pepper shakers for scale. I think he could use some thinning on his hat brim and shape his feet more, but it was a fairly quick whittle, and for that I'm pretty happy with the results.
I picked this guy up at an estate sale! Gotta love that Scandinavian flat plane carving style. I have to try my hand at this style soon!
I reshaped another inexpensive knife to create something akin to a Mora style carving knife. I used a 4" Rapala fillet knife and cut the blade down to about 2.25". I then ground down the edge profile to make it better suited for wood carving. The little animal carving shown in the pic was carved using that knife. I'm really happy with how it turned out, I have a feeling I'll be using this knife a lot.
