Gabagool, eh, Tracy.
Flattop Jones
Nothin’, huh?
Now that’s the drink of a cold-blooded hired assassin.
Fandom in the 1940s!
So in the 40s comic strip, Dick Tracy, a very popular villain was Flattop Jones, a greedy & professional hitman who was hired to kill Tracy, but kept him alive to blackmail more money from his employers. When Flattop died with his body even identified, fans went into public mourning & the newspaper received mourning flowers. I bet there'd be a ton of Flattop lives & Flattop X Tracy fanfiction if fanfiction existed back then too.
This guy?
Seems like this character was based on a ganster called "Pretty Boy Floyd."
Ooh, Dick Tracy had a whole rogues' gallery!
Friend, fanfiction existed back then as well. Always has: myths (e.g., Greek mythology) are the oldest form of it!
But yeah, people would've totally posted Flattop/Tracy stories on fanfic sites if they'd had internet in the 1930s.
Today’s villain is Flattop from Dick Tracy
