Red Bull Music Academy San Francisco 2014
The application phase for the 2014 edition of the Red Bull Music Academy has started! To pave the way for Tokyo, we're setting out for a three day musical takeover of the City by the Bay. From February 21th to 23th, the Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp San Francisco will establish a creative environment at Hotel Zetta, featuring some of the most buzzed about creative names in music. Thirty selected music makers from across the West will be put through their paces by local and international creative pioneers, collaborate in custom pop-up studios, and perform at public events in the city’s venues.
On Friday, February 21st the participants will experience an afternoon lecture with the reigning queen of future vintage soul, Erykah Badu, moderated by Jeff “Chairman” Mao. Later that evening a RBMA Club Night will feature a dj set Erykah Badu's alter-ego DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown, Brainfeeder's Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner, Brooklyn’s definite crate authority Cosmo Baker, last year's Academy graduate Kid Smpl and other special guests.
The following day, a screening of the RBMA film What Difference Does it Make? A Film About Making Music will be shown at Victoria Theater. Before the film starts, guests will be treated to a lecture with iconic producer, remixer and DJ extraordinaire François K, moderated by XLR8R’s Shawn Reynaldo. After the film, we present a second RBMA Club Night featuring dj sets by creative visionary and electronic music icon Carl Craig and François K. Additional musical talent will include Academy alumni Ghosts on Tape and Suzanne Kraft, as well as RBMA Bass Camp participants Austin Caesar (live) and Avalon Emerson. Ending the weekend on a high note, the invited guests will have a Sunday brunch while they engage in an exclusive synthesizer analog workshop series with Carl Craig and electronic computer processing pioneer Morton Subotnick.
