Do invisible aligners really work to straighten teeth?
Invisible aligners work on the same principles as the standard wire braces; they use the appropriate placement of controlled force to cause the teeth to move into a desired straight position gradually. Different teeth can be moved with each stage of the treatment, or different strategy of distinct forces can be applied using wires and brackets or aligners.
What are invisible aligners?
Invisible aligners are a set of clear removable aligners that can straighten teeth and improve your smile without using traditional braces. The aligners add slight pressure to your teeth to move them into the ideal alignment.
Invisible aligners are very comfortable and almost invisible. They use “attachments” as pressure points to move teeth. These attachments are tooth coloured and are not very noticeable. You can remove the aligners to eat and drink and for oral hygiene purposes.
How are invisible aligners made?
While invisible aligners are a treatment for imperfect teeth that’s widely accessible, every patient’s treatment is custom-made. At the start of your treatment, your dentist or orthodontist will take detailed X-rays, photographs and impressions of your teeth. Based on those images, a 3D model of your teeth will be created so your medical provider can create an individualised treatment plan for you that involves custom-made invisible aligners.
Before your aligners are made, your dentist or orthodontist will talk to you about the final results your treatment plan will likely produce. Once you approve the expected results, production of your invisible aligners will begin. After they’re made, your aligners will be examined for quality and individually trimmed to fit your gum line precisely.
How do invisible aligners work?
The aligners work by gradually moving teeth into the desired final position. A patient would progress through many different aligners, each one completing the next step of the movement. By the time the final aligner had been worn for a couple of weeks, the teeth would be in the desired position and would stay so as long as the patient continues to use a retainer.
Why should you choose invisible aligners?
Treatment with metal braces often takes two to three years, which is a significant amount of time. On top of the longer treatment process, you must visit the orthodontist frequently to have the braces tightened or wires replaced. That means taking time out of your already busy schedule to fit in the necessary appointments.
With invisible aligners, treatment can be completed in as little as six months. There is no need for frequent check-ups, as the entire process is designed with convenience in mind. Simply switch out your aligners every two weeks and watch your smile begin to transform. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
