The Datura quartet from The Flowers of the Metaverse collection. This plant has a storied history of shamanic visionary use by both pre-Columbian peoples in North America and Witches in Europe. It's a powerful entheogen and it's also highly dangerous (like brain damage dangerous), but I'm not surprised that earlier people discovered it. Just look at a datura, it's beautiful, its scent is bewitching, and it even appears a little deadly...a suitable blossom to earn the moniker The Devil's Trumpet. I was fascinated by the concept of a hallucinogenic flower and thought it would make a good exploration for the collection.
There's a belief that the plant has something to teach you, a story to tell, secrets to be revealed, visions to show. Do you believe that the lessons come from the plant's consciousness or by the access to our subconscious or the different parts of psyche that they provide? I don't know what to think.
For the record, I've never ingested datura, nor will I probably ever will, but I find them a beautiful subject to create from because of their forms, their cultural usage, and mystery.
