But FLOWERY is SO IN YOUR FACE ABOUT IT- IT FORCES RALSEI TO STAND UP AGAINST IT

I get why thats uncomfortable, Ralsei is my favorite of the fun gang, but to truly love a character you need to accept narrative foil and resistance. I love Flowery because he helps Ralsei grow (haha)

Hes very similar to Flowery and i think thats another reason Ral is quick to hate/be distrustful of him

I honestly hate going through the Flowery tag because I'm sure that all the posts I'll see are going to be another of those "I want that twink obliterated" hate posts and it's like. Okay I can guess that most of them are joking and that some of them don't actually hate him that much and are just joking, In fact I know some of his fans also make those jokes. But also it's like. The thing people say about him the most of it gets tiring cause he's genuinely a very interesting and nuanced character yet it's hard to find posts where people actually talk about that nuances. And even if they do it's like "he's intended the be written as an annoying prefect Gary Sue and you're supposed to hate him" but never really talk about the actual nuance of him. Like how much he genuinely cares for others, how he actually has good motives for standing against you and how he challenges yours and the fun gangs beliefs in a very valid way despite being smug about it. And how he's actually not as perfect as he makes himself out to be and even the tragedies surrounding his character so.. I'm glad this blog exists because it feels like a safe place I can come in and actually see people discuss about his character in a deeper way

It's a little scary to go through the Deltarune tag in general right now, it feels like its so easy to get myself into a negative viewpoint over some takes (and yes, Flowery's treatment is a part of that) That was something I wasn't expecting when going to tumblr post chapter 5. I haven't been in a fandom like this since (ironically) Undertale when I was like 10 years old and I dunno it's weird to see again lolflowers. (I know they've always been here though, just haven't been in a fandom like this in awhile)

I don't agree in general with the take that Flowery was written "to be hated" like I don't think Toby's ever written a character we're meant to hate (or at least hate forever) so him starting that with a character with an understandable viewpoint, redeeming qualities and a heros death makes no sense at all to me. He's annoying, pompous, and pretty cruel to the Fun Gang- but he's not irredeemable or was tailor made for the fandom to hate him.

I'm glad be a spot where discussion can be held! I just hope this period of fandom discourse is short lived
