After an early morning discussion with @flubz we've found that the biggest disappointment about Sonic the Hedgehog is that he could not, in fact, get anywhere close to the speed of sound under his own power since his ability to accelerate laterally is quickly overwhelmed by air resistance around 97m/s, not even a third of the promised 343m/s! Don't get me wrong, that's still really heckin' fast, but it's not anywhere close to what was advertised.
