There was, in Will's mind, a moment when you realize your life is about to change.
His was the minute he walked into a near empty theater and a man turned to smile at him.
"Hello."
It had been a hell of a day, with two out of his seven dogs getting sick and a pipe in his bathroom sink busting out of nowhere, but this felt like the best reprieve.
A night at the theater.
Les Misérables wasn't exactly his cup of tea, but his best friend since high school, Beverly, had always been a huge fan and her girlfriend Alana was sick so he'd offered to be her date. But now, standing in front of what he now realized was a set up, he was close to breaking.
"No," he said, turning to leave.
Will had his phone out halfway down the row when he felt a hand on his shoulder, and turned angrily to see the man who was his "date" standing there looking apologetic.
"Alana told me you knew about this," he said softly, frowning, "I was unaware you weren't told. I just wanted to apologize."
He sighed. "Bev is always trying to get me to go out, I'm not---" he blushed, pushing the glasses up on his nose, "I'm not a fan of things where it's a requirement for me to be....social."
The man, who Will realized now with alarm was actually very handsome, smiled.
"It's strange, considering how social a person I am that they thought to pair us together," he put out his hand for Will to shake, "I'd like to introduce myself even if you're going to leave. Doctor H...."
Will sighed. "You're a shrink, aren't you? That's why Alana pretended to be sick." he rolled his eyes, "They both know I hate shrinks."
His date frowned. "You've had difficulties with psychiatrists before?"
"I don't want to talk about my traumas in the hallway of a theater, ok? Just....I'm sorry but you're gonna be alone tonight."
"I understand, though I would tell you I find you quite handsome, Will, and while you say you're not one to be social there has been not one part of this interaction that made me angry at Alana's choice," he kissed Will's hand, making his heart skip a beat, and bowed dramatically, "I hope you can salvage your evening. Good night."
He walked away, leaving Will with an odd ache, and while there were a million reasons for him to leave Will pushed himself forward running to catch up. "Hey!"
His date turned in surprise. "Did you need something?"
Will's face was bright red as he mumbled, "Um, maybe....I can stick around a while and....since you know my name I think I should know yours, Doctor...."
He smiled at him, and Will's stomach flipped. "Doctor Hannibal Lecter," he said softly, taking Will's hand without asking, "It's nice to meet you....formally."
Will smiled. "Yeah, I think...."
A noise went off, indicating the play was about to begin, and they both didn't hesitate to go back to their seats. Will sat on the end of the aisle, and Hannibal even offered to get them something to eat but he declined.
He'd never been more nervous or excited in his entire life.
The lights dimmed and he paid little attention, staring at Hannibal the entire time, and the way the man's face lit up during certain scenes was a show in and of itself. Will tentatively laid his hand in between them, too worried to be rejected, and Hannibal didn't' even hesitate to take his hand holding it the entire show.
Will got caught staring halfway through act one and Hannibal turned his cheek as he leaned in to whisper in his ear, "You're missing a good show," and Will let out a long breath.
"I don't think I care."
Hannibal kissed his cheek then, making Will let out a gasp, and he was absurdly turned on by such a gentle gesture. "I'm quite flattered to have all your attention."
It must have been the lights, or maybe even just being so close, but Will kissed him. Hannibal kissed back, slowly taking, and if they weren't in such a noticeable seat he was sure he'd have climbed in the man's lap in seconds. They pulled back, both staring, and then left the theater.
Not one word was spoken, not for a minute, and the men's bathroom was completely empty when Will was pressed against the first stall. He groaned, rutting against Hannibal like a teenager, and the door was opened for them to shamelessly jerk each other off. He felt like a different person, like somehow Hannibal had changed him in such little time, and when he came he bit Hannibal's lip tasting blood that felt at home on his tongue. They broke for breath, panting, and Will burst out laughing.
Hannibal smiled, kissing him softly. "I've never had that reaction before but I will take it as a compliment."
Will grinned. "You should, I usually save the laughs for the third date after ruining everything."
He touched Will's cheek. "I highly doubt that's possible given how compatible we've been so far, but....I will promise not to let you ruin everything even if you try."
Will blinked back tears. "You don't know how much I.....this isn't me. Not at all."
Hannibal kissed him again, pressing their foreheads together. "I feel very unlike myself as well, Will, I would normally find it quite rude to even be offered a clandestine sexual encounter in the men's bathroom but....if you asked me now I'd get on my knees to pleasure you."
He moaned. "Fuck, you can't....say stuff like that."
Hannibal smiled. "I can, and I did," he touched his cheek, "I want to invite you home with me but I fear you're going to decline."
Will let out a long breath. "Yeah."
"Will...."
He kissed him again. "I'm not....declining you, ok? I'm not,” he pulled back, getting up off his lap, "I just....too much of a good thing feels like a bad idea tonight. Give me your number, and tomorrow, ok? Tomorrow we can...."
Hannibal didn't move, looking forlorn. "I'm worried you will not answer my calls."
"Hannibal," he sighed, fixing his pants while he tried to wipe off, "I'm not...."
He gasped when Hannibal got on his knees, the longing look in his eyes pathetic, and Will touched his cheek.
"Will, please come home with me. We can have dinner, we needn't...."
Will swallowed.
He wanted to say no.
It felt like tonight was special, and he'd wanted to end it on a high note but now Hannibal was looking like a lost puppy.
And Will had never been able to turn one of those away.
