The air was crisp, and the morning was bright. It wasn’t often that Claude was awake with the sunrise – and it was less often that he was out of the apartment. After a full breakfast for his lover’s special day, and even struggling through a block and a half run with him, they packed up the car and headed out of the city.
Claude hadn’t known if this was the best idea. Quiet days were more his thing, and he was certain in his poor heart that Matheus would prefer a day out with friends in the city or on the bay, partying like the young, handsome thing he was. But Claude was a romantic, and he could only hope that Matheus would enjoy the day that Claude had planned.
It was almost noon when they arrived at the lake. The sun was high, and the hills rolled with green and life. It was hard to believe that autumn had arrived.
With the brightest of smiles, Claude rushed around the car to open Matheus’ door for him, greeting his boyfriend with a kiss. ‘I know it’s not much,’ he said, smiling still, ‘but I packed us a picnic and, well—there’s a surprise by the water.’
With arms wrapped around Matheus waist, Claude pressed a second, third, sixth and eighth kiss to his boyfriend’s face, absolutely unable to contain himself. There was nothing he wanted to do more than drown his perfect love in affection on his special day.
‘Come on, we shouldn’t waste anymore time, birthday boy!’
