Banana Bread

a self indulged little drabble i wrote pretty quickly, because i’m currently tired as hell. Thought id project it onto other people to try and get the writing gears working for my bigger fic.

fandom: homestuck characters: gamzee makara, karkat vantas dynamic: gamkar (flushed) genre: fluff length: 582 words (very short) pov: 3rd person (mainly gamzee)

note: no, there isnt any banana bread in the story.

a soft, angry grunt awoke gamzee from his resting place on the floor.

gamzee’s bleary eyes slowly opened, stifling back a yawn as he lifted his face from the floor. turning his head to the side so that one of his ears were pinned beneath his head his eyes focused on a pair of black converses and a long tail with a big pompom of black fur at the end curled around them, flicking irritably from side to side. gamzee turned his head further and was met with the sight of karkat glowering down at him.

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING DOWN THERE, GAMZEE?“ the troll asked. gamzee blinked a few times as he searched for an answer. “’M jUsT rEsTiN’.” he mumbled, rolling onto his back. his joints ached and his body screamed at him to get up, but he refused to budge. karkat scowled. “YOU HAVE A RECUPERACOON FOR A REASON.“ karkat gave gamzees hip a small nudge with his shoe, but only got a sleepy growl from gamzee as he waved a claw.

“nAh BrOtHeR... fLoOrS bEtTeR.“ he shrugged and karkat only rolled his eyes. the smaller grabbed hold of the clowns legs and gave a hefty yank - a surprised honk leaving gamzee - although the purpleblood was too heavy to move. gamzees heels stung as his legs were dropped abruptly, though he just rolled back over onto his stomach. karkats shoes could be heard walking away, and gamzee relaxed. he was almost asleep again when he was hit on the back of the head with something plush, a prolongued muffled honk leaving him. karkat crouched down to lift gamzees head, stuffing a folded blanket under his head. gamzee rolled onto his side to groan. “bRo... WhAt ArE yOu DoInG?“ he mumbled as karkat dropped another blanket on him.

“IF YOURE GOING TO SLEEP ON THE FLOOR, YOU MIGHT AS WELL BE COMFORTABLE.“ he grunted, putting the blanket on the floor and rolling gamzee onto it before re-situating his pillow. he draped a final blanket over gamzee, loosely tucking in the edges around gamzees body so he didn’t get too drafty. “aWwW... tHaNkS, kArKiTtY.“ gamzee purred, gaining a glare from karkat as he kicked his shoes off to the side. he then flopped down besides gamzee, and the clown made a small honk of confusion. “wH-“ “IM KEEPING YOU COMPANY.“ karkat interrupted, before rolling onto his side so that his back faced gamzee. a bright smile formed on the clowns face as he excitedly reached out from the blanket, grabbing hold of karkats shoulder to pull him close to his chest. a disgruntle growl left karkat as he was dragged closer but he didn’t fight back, kicking his legs a little to remove the blanket from gamzee so he could pull it over himself as well. gamzee moved around compliantly to let karkat get comfortable before snuggling close, locking his claws over karkats chest to ensure he wouldnt be slipping away (although, if karkat tugged hard enough, he’d let go).

“tHaNkS, kAr...“ gamzee mumbled, tucking karkats head under his chin. karkat just sighed, curling his knees to his chest. “YEAH YEAH.. ITS NOTHING.” karkat yawned. gamzees purring made his entire body vaguely vibrate, but it was more soothing than bothersome. eventually they fell asleep on the floor, karkat getting pulled up onto gamzees chest halfway through the day as he rolled onto his back again.

sleeping with karkat was almost better than sleeping in his own recuperacoon.
