Death of us

This death probably took the longest for me to overcome. We created this life together. We planned a future together. We built this family together. In what felt like a blink of an eye, it was gone.  Me and X, X and me, we don’t exist anymore.

Marriage is hard

So we were told.  We were taught all about the compromises, sacrifices, duties, obligations, restrictions, joys, and benefits that come with marriage. As a southern christian woman, I was taught a certain role a husband should hold and certain duties a wife should carry through. I was told to pick my battles and to honor my man.  We are given several categories and scenarios that can bring the most trouble. A main one being finances. We were taught when to tread carefully. We were taught at home, in church, by family friends and strangers, and we were even taught at school about marriage. We thought we were prepared for anything marriage would bring us. Or at least I thought I was. But they don’t teach you about one thing. Divorce. They don’t teach you divorce is like death. Death of him. Death of me. Death of us.
