This Oakland trio have come together from their separate band memberships to make this ear-catching debut. Led by the bountiful vocals of Colleen Johnson, Of Loving Grace is an intriguing mix of off-center angular riffs and mid-tempo dream pop. "Dayglo Queen” is the first and best example of their predilection for skittering rhythms and understated guitar tension, playfully twisting around Johnson’s sweetly delivered lyrics. “Hidden Mountain” finds an alluring circular groove that swells into tender waves of atmospheric harmony. They save their most excitable work for a seven minute finale in “Arachnibs”, burning subtly with anxious percussion and an anodic throb that gradually dissipates with a worthwhile postlude. All nine tracks ring with a purposeful tone on Grace, making a firm footprint for their first recording and setting a decided direction for future efforts.
