“my glory days were long ago now. far behind me and out of reach.”
So I feel like talking about Fog-Runner. Character rambles I guess.
I’ve mentioned before how he’s not the brightest guy, but he’s kind of instinctually smart... Like, he can fight Nords or Orcs or the like and probably unconsciously know how to outmaneuver them even though he’s not quite as strong as typical beefcake orcs/nords (close, though, and stronger than ordinary specimens certainly). I imagine that he’d get his ass kicked by sneaky/clever fighters like bosmer, khajit, and especially other Argonians who can figure out how to read, bait, and exploit him.
Bottom line, even though he’s pretty scary-looking and gruff he’s also kind of a big doof and probably gets bailed out a lot by his traveling companions like his wife, Teldryn Sero, Siras, etc. But outside of psychological warfare (which can actually backfire in some situations if he gets angry, which doesn’t happen often, but he berserks like an orc when he does), he’s pretty capable of handling himself, for the most part.
I’ve been playing Skyrim and thinking about characterizing elder scrolls OCs some more hahaha… SO LET’S TALK ABOUT SOME LEEZARDS (and… Bretons… lol).
Fog-Runner: bara croc/iguana/dinosaur spellsword. Even though he’s my main Skyrim character and really buff-scary looking, he’s also really easygoing and kind of a doormat except when his temper is inflamed. Pretty simple-minded and naive, not the brightest guy, but has a sort of instinctual intelligence. Was born/orphaned in Skyrim, raised by Nords, and instilled largely with Nord values, but has sort of a puppy-dog idolization for his own kind, who he mostly hasn’t had many experiences with, and gets low-key excited whenever meeting another Argonian. Mainly an adventurer, and accompanies most of the others for their various ventures, including Siras (who doesn’t respect him), Neloth (who also doesn’t, but is nicer at least), and Evening-Rain (who he eventually marries). Settles down in Falkreath sometime after marrying and more or less retires from adventuring to become a full time malachite smith and watch their kids (since Rain is usually out doing dragonborn business). Eventually he and wifey take a pilgrimage to Black Marsh so he can see it for the first time, and he realizes just how alienated he’s become from his own kind and their way of life and then has to grapple with that.
Evening-Rain I: Biryu’s Morrowind character. Intelligent and well-learned in both speech and writtings. Born into a life of hardship. Travelled across Vvardenfell for most of her youth, gradually becoming a figure of prominence and nobility before settling in Mournhold for a time. Frequently bought slaves and brought them into her service to teach them valuable life skills before freeing them and giving them another lease on life. At some point, she contracted vampirisim, and unable to cure the disease before it blossomed to its full stage, she turned to… other means of correcting the problem. After assisting and gaining the favor of Molag Bal, she was cured, and then taken as a ceremonial bride to bear him a son, who she named Danei-Bal. Travelled to Black Marsh and married young Argonian, Ashnei. The two had three children, lost two before hatching.
Wanders-the-Mist: diminutive snek-like ninja (or closest lore-friendly equivalent, which IIRC is nightblade). One of many Argonian slaves that Evening-Rain frequently bought and enlisted into her service as a means of reprieve from the slavery of the Dunmer. Quiet and very private, but sly and clever and quick-thining, Evening-Rain recognized his potential and had him trained to be an assassin (his tiny stature also helped at making him more unassuming and easily hidden as well). Through the course of his training, he eventually falls for Rain, though his love is never requited through several years of faithful service. Eventually, he confesses and is dismissed from service as a result. Travels to Cyrodiil for a very short time before the Oblivion Crisis struck, during which he heads back to Black Marsh with his kin to fight off the impending daedric invasion. Serves in the Argonian army for a time while they invade Morrowind, thirsty for revenge against the Dunmer for so many years of his peoples’ subjugation at their hands. After Morrowind’s surrender, he’s relieved of service and left to wander and wonder what he’s doing with his life, and nurse his still-unresolved heartbreak. He meets a Breton assassin in a pub in Mournhold and has a drunken fling with her, then joins up with her as a traveling companion. Also an ancestor of Fog-Runner (though I haven’t figured out their exact relation).
Valen-Kei: WAS going to be my ESO character before playing it became a blatant non-option (for a number of reasons). My attempt at creating an Argonian more connected to their lore and culture; a shaman/healer type with strong connection to the Hist. I don’t remember his appearance and probably need to redesign him (had a lot of similar colors to Fog-Runner, so is probably in that bloodline as well… perhaps he had a fling when he was younger before becoming a shaman but IDK, I’ll have to check how lore-friendly that is), but in terms of personality he was sort of the grizzled but easygoing dad type, mostly serious, but patient and nurturing with younger folk and most other races. Naturally a bit of an eco-warrior.
Wyrn Nightcaller: A Breton assassin in service to the King of High Rock dispatched to travel Tamriel while she pursues specific targets across the land, frequently receiving courier missives with more work for her from the king. During her training, she was sent to Black Marsh to train among the Shadowscales, throughout which she was raped by Argonians a number of times (mostly bandits, though also the odd ordinary citizen or figure of power). On one such instance, one of her shadowscale training buddies intervened and rescued her, after which the two went on to develop a bond that also eventually turned sexual…. though it was quickly cut off when he was sent off to the Dark Brotherhood to pursue his service to Sithis. She continued to have sexual encounters throughout the rest of her time in Black Marsh, albeit of a slightly healthier nature than before, gaining her quite a reputation among her time there for any Argonian men who wished to ‘sample’ a smoothskin woman. After completing her training and leaving to pursue her duties, she met and traveled with Valen-Kei for a time, falling deeply for him despite their lack of a sexual relationship and despite his dedication to his spiritual duties. Eventually they parted ways quite abruptly, leaving her with her deeply unresolved feelings. From there, she traveled to Morrowind in pursuit of her targets, eventually winding up meeting Wanders-the-Mist nursing his own unresolved feelings over a hefty mug of sujamma…
Evening-Rain II: Leopard Gecko assassin-type; sole surviving daughter of Rain I. Strong-willed, Loyal and very bright. Commanded armies during the Oblivion Crisis with great skill and authority. Secured her bloodline, here called the Shadow Bloodline, with long lasting respect from Empire. Had affair with Teinaava of the Dark Brotherhood, bore one child, Soothing-Mist. First of the Shadow Bloodline to become Listener of the Dark Brotherhood. First-hand witness of Martin Septim’s transformation into the Avatar of Akatosh and his defeat of Mehrunes Dagon, as well as the death of such a dear friend. As a result of this event, the Shadow Bloodline was thereafter gifted with Dragon Blood. Moved to Black Marsh and founded a small, modest settlement called Dragon’s Heart.
Evening-Rain III: Granddaughter of Rain II, resembles a marine iguana and some other stuff. Early on, was shaping up to be a simple domestic housewife, but her granny insisted that she be allowed to get out and see the world before ‘being married off to some fool in Gideon’. In the interest of this, she set out to join the Imperial Legion, but is captured by Stormcloaks and then the Legion themselves en route to Skyrim, where her maingame storyline commences and she awakens as Dragonborn, etc. etc. Quickly falls in line with the Dark Brotherhood, much like her grandmother, becoming Listener and all that and quickly rebuilding. Sly, well-spoken, cunning, smart, and haughty, Evening-Rain is highly educated and knowledgeable, and atypically well-versed in human and meric culture, allowing her to fit in with the peoples of Skyrim better than most Argonians. Assists Marisa with the fight against Miraak in the Dragonborn storyline.
Siras Nightwind: Tightwad antisocial sorcerer; something of a savant with magic, but hates being around people and having to deal with social situations. Born in Markarth to Forsworn parentage; secretly raised with Reachman rituals and trained in conjuration magics, only for his parents to be killed in Ulfric’s quelling of the Forsworn uprising. Went to High Rock to study magic at an accelerated pace, then comes back to Skyrim 20 odd years later to attend the college and study the ancient nords’ secrets and lore (becomes Archmage in our continuity). Tries to avoid Markarth because of the unpleasant memories, but is compulsorily pulled back and gets involved in the Forsworn Conspiracy very much involuntarily. Does wind up helping them, but still betrays Madanach after they break out to get distinction and political favor in Markarth. (Though since this is pretty depraved and not sure how in-character it is for him, might have it happen AFTER the next part…) Joins the vampires during the Dawnguard storyline (going from antisocial to full-on sociopathic), putting him at odds with Fog-Runner (who joins the DG) until he decides to help overthrow Harkon and rid himself of the vampirism not long afterward. All throughout his storyline, has sort of an on-and-off romantic sort of deal with Marisa, and is also acquainted with Evening Rain through dealings with the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild.
Marisa Tatil: Another Breton mage; talented in her craft and raised with a fairly refined upbringing, but rather unexceptional otherwise. While studying the Dwemer in one of their ruins, winds up trapped in the depths of Blackreach for a period of several months, presumed dead… Shortly after getting out, she is then stranded in Apocrypha for a similarly lengthy period of time, being scouted and enlisted by Hermaeus Mora to be his champion, granting her enhanced spatial and dimensional powers ((OOC: the console commands, lol)) in return for doing his bidding. The main subject of the Dragonborn storyline, though not being dragonborn herself, she seeks out Evening-Rain and enlists her help in the fight against Miraak.
