Winter is fast approaching and I am taking these next few day to finish up all my orders before I return home to be with my family for the solstice/Yule. I took this photo last winter up in Mt. Hood, a truly magical place with snow mounds up to your eyes and Evergreens so tall you can’t bend your neck enough to see their tops. The silence and sheer beauty of the winter woods is enough to change your course of life. I am looking forward to the calm and wisdom it brings. And I am happily anticipating my return here early in the new year, for more photos and divination work on this mighty mountain. . . How is everyone feeling about their transition into winter? Forests drenched in twilight mist ↟ . . As I walked home in the misty darkening sky after taking this photo, I thought about how the ancients handled this time of year. As these relentless rains pour down, day after day taking the last of the leaves, the earth is coming to its rest. The ancients restored and rested with these forests. But in modern day, we tend to busy ourselves, push ourselves, instead of embracing this sacred time of reclusion, we push even harder. So when is it that we truly rest? Us modern humans have this constant idea that more more, faster faster is better. We work our bodies until they literally force us to slow down, usually though sickness. . . A stark reminder came upon me when I was struck with seasonal sickness a few days ago. A sign from the ancients perhaps, a sign to -slow it down- My body forcing me to rest and recluse as it’s meant to this time, though the work ahead and the commitments made pull me to carry on. Finding the balance during this season is one I am constantly, desperately striving for and yet to quiet figure out. . . Wanting to honor the ancients and honor my self. Heal. Nourish. Yet also produce and provide. Turning to our divine for comfort ~ Pulling energy from Étaín, The Shining One. The Celtic goddess of healing and transformation. Once a sun goddess transformed into a moon goddess. As these seasons shift, channeling her energy of strength, overcoming obstacles and allowing her to help pull me forth into balance ~ guide me back towards the shining light. ↟ . . Foggy fall mornings ↟ . . There’s no better feelings than peeking out my window and seeing the world shrouded in mist, grabbing my camera and heading to the trees ↟ . . As the veil thins further, the line between life and those have come before us blurs. When I am out in the forest on these foggy fall days I am speaking to the land, speaking to my ancestors and speaking to the energy inside the trees, all the life around me. And as the leaves wither and fall, I am tapping into the energy of those that have come before. Allowing their wisdoms to consume my subconscious.
