The Weekend Update #31
I've been trying to get some damn adventure time in this summer, so last week I made the executive decision that the weekend was obvious and scooted off to Ucluelet for my days off. God rewards the impromptu with glorious sunshine and Long Beach surf, apparently. I'm still digging the sand out of my bathing suit. You know, between the seventeen iced coffees, beers, sunning, and reading reading reading. Maintaining a bombastic and harried schedule of summer keeps the sun alive, like clapping for fairies or dancing for rain. Leave work early for the sake of keeping the sky blue. I'm holding you accountable for cloud cover.
FRIDAY Teeny tiny show space The Ministry of Casual Living will somehow accommodate a three-band jamboree tonight. The Group Sound, Dead Soft, and Horse Girls will bring a pot-luck confection of soft-punk surf-sound to Haultain village tonight. You'll be close to Koffi for coffee, a confectionary for confections (aka a corner store full of five-cent candy) and a park to lie around in afterwards. Show at 7PM, appreciation by donation. Very summer chic of them. SATURDAY Well, to defy my lazing of last week apparently the social mavens have decided that this week is as barren as (womb joke). In lieu of something untypical or one-offish to do (such as a show) I suggest we all try something new. I've never done LSD before, for example. Yesterday I biked out to Madrona Farm, bought radishes, and then ate them with a bricks of Choux Choux cheese beneath a giant oak in the middle of the farm property. That was magical, consider that a suggestion. Fol Epi still has their glorious all-organic soft-serve, Cold Comfort has whipped up batch of Popcorn and Salted-Caramel ice cream that she'll be slinging at the Moss Street market. Uh...I found a great cliff to have secret beers on at Sooke Potholes? I've been thinking (the beginning of a long process of hem-hawing) about going skimming in the poo-scum waters of Gonzales. Uhhhhh fuck! I don't know you guys! Maybe I'll head over to Victory and demand a shave or something. I;ll say "yes I am very concerned about my upper-lip mustache and have heard a straight-raze (lady-talk) is more effective and dangerous than a wax and I am a creature of ADVENTURE." Most likely I will take advantage of the two cigarettes I have left from my 3-month ration of Fantasias. Mmm spaghetti-string throat. Mmmm sun stroke. Mmmmm my back porch. Then I'll practice shaking my ass like the girl in THIS video and potentially take it to Lucky bar. Or just practice it. SUNDAY Did you READ Saturday? The only thing I can possibly suggest for Sunday is treating yourself to breakfast at The Superior Cafe. Not only do they serve MISO-HOLLANDAISE, they're in irresistibly cute James Bay. Well, some like it. I do. It's so ghost-town in there. And there are so many free-piles. Happy summer weekend, friends. See you for a coffee sometime soon?
