Canon City -- like fandom canon, or Catholic canon?

There’s a city in the neutral zone in the historical AU The Man in the High Castle called Canon City. 

We know what canon is around here, it’s ‘truth according to the show; all the stuff that’s included.” Canon is also another word for dogma - the religion according to the people who say, worship this way or else you’re not one of us. 

So, is Canon City a place of freedom, or of danger? Is Canon City a connection to “our” history, as hinte din the movie of the real, true VJ day? Or is Canon City a place where dogma is strongest and hardest to escape?

I feel like Angela is Snape, except her life challenges allowed her to move forward, instead of dwelling in the past. As a result, her preconceptions were challenged and she grew as a person.
