Sugarcane is a species of tall perennial true grass plant from the genus Saccharum and is used for the production of sugar. The two early species of sugarcane were both primarily used for domesticated pigs feed. Although the exact time is unknown, it is widely believed sugar first started being refined into granules in 350 AD.
