Day 19.2
@febuwhump: Death wish
Task Force 141 is under attack and pinned down. They hide behind a wall Jamie created with earth-bending.
"We can't stay here forever," Soap argues.
"I'm open to suggestions," Price argues.
Jamie looks around from behind the earth wall.
"I have an idea."
"No, I don't care that you have powers and abilities; you're not going out there!" Price argues.
"We're pinned down and can't stay here. We don't have a choice."
Jamie runs towards the enemy.
"Jamie, no!" Ghost yells.
"She has a fucking death wish!" Gaz argues.
The men watch as the enemies fire their guns at Jamie, who uses her metal bending to control the bullets. Once the bullets hit the ground, Jamie bends the metal of the guns and takes them out of the enemies' hands, destroying them.
The four men watch, stunned. Once it's clear, they come out from behind their cover.
"Nice work," Price praises. "But never do that again!"
“You’ve turned on your core roots and the animals in a way that is so disappointing,” one angry diner said.
A popular California vegan restaurant chain announced it was shutting its doors after years of financial struggles — but the final nails in the coffin came from angry vegans who began attacking the company when it put meat on the menu.
Sage Regenerative Kitchen & Brewery will close Sunday after 14 years, a move its owner Mollie Engelhart told Eater was a “sad victory” for the vegans who came out in droves to protest the eatery’s decision to start serving bison burgers, cheese and other non-vegan fare in an effort to draw in new customers.
While the restaurant, with locations in Echo Park and Pasadena, was one of California’s most beloved plant-based bistros, it had struggled with rent and taxes for some time. Then, last year, Engelhart and her husband and co-owner Elias Sosa sold their home to put money back into the company in an effort to revive it, according to Eater.
In May 2024, Sage added meat and cheese to its vegan menu. Engelhart said it was all grown with regenerative farming methods, which are meant to have less environmental impact than traditional farming.
“I thought maybe we could merge these two things, my restaurants and my passion for regenerative agriculture, and come to some new pathway,” Engelhart told the outlet.
The change, however, failed to draw in new customers. And it upset existing vegan diners.
Furious vegans review-bombed the restaurant with one-star reviews.
“Will never eat here now that they serve meat. I’m sure y’all lost a lot of your vegan base when you added meat. Disgraceful,” one reviewer said on Yelp.
“I brought all my friends there to have meals and it was a safe and delicious place for Vegans. You’ve turned on your core roots and the animals in a way that is so disappointing,” another reviewer said.
When Sage announced it was closing with a post on its Instagram account, many vegans responded with delight.
The top comment on the post, from animal rights organization PETA, slammed the chain, writing: “LA’s first and LAST regenerative kitchen. Serving humane-washed meat, dairy, and eggs under the sham of ‘regenerative farming’ betrayed animals, the planet, and kind customers who weren’t duped by your cruel choices.”
Another critic chimed in: “This is a great day for animals. One less butcher shop posing as a restaurant in town.”
Others commented that the closure was “karma” for turning their back on animals — and their former clientele.
“This is what happens when you betray the animals and your customer base. Quit playing the victim card,” one person wrote.
While many were sad to see the restaurant go, most commenters still had hard feelings over the menu change, with one person noting, “We said goodbye to Sage already. Bummer dead animals didn’t bring y’all enough money to stay open.”
Meanwhile, others simply joked, “Don’t worry, the restaurant will regenerate.”

Day 2.1;
@ailesswhumptober: Gunshot, "It's not worth your life!"
@whumptober-archive: “You’ve got a lot of nerve to dredge up all my fears.”
@angstober: Uncertain
Under the cut
Makarov’s return angers Task Force 141. Makarov’s knowledge of Jamie surprised them, as if the two had crossed paths before. Jamie knows who Makarov is but has never met him. Hearing how much Makarov knows about Jamie concerns Gaz, Ghost, Price, and Soap.
“I know you fear failing to protect your friends. You feel guilt for failing to protect the Autobots. Watching them die haunts you,” Makarov says.
“You’ve got a lot of nerve to dredge up all my fears,” Jamie says.
“How do you even know about her?” Price asks.
“I investigate who I interact with; you should understand this. She will be easy to defeat.”
No one expected Makarov to run after smiling at Jamie. They all suspected this was a trap, but Jamie didn’t care. She wants to stop Makarov.
“Don’t! It’s not worth your life!” Price argues. “We should retreat now and figure out his plan.”
Jamie doesn’t listen and runs in the direction Makarov went. The others run after her, shocked at how fast she’s running.
Jamie finds herself in a dim hallway. She stops to concentrate on sensing anyone nearby. Makarov’s rapid movement leads to Jamie’s inability to sense him before being shot.
“Oh shit,” Soap worries, as he, Gaz, Ghost, and Price hear the gunshots.
The four run faster.
“How did you persist so long in this field?” Makarov questions, looking at Jamie lying on the floor. “Foolish woman.”
He walks down the hall.
Gaz, Ghost, Price, and Soap stop in their tracks, seeing Jamie lying on the floor in a puddle of blood. They rush toward her. All four are uncertain if they can help her as they wait for medevac. They could not believe this had occurred, nor that Jamie deemed this wise, given her military history. Even if she hasn’t been in Task Force 141 for long.

DUPAGE COUNTY, Ill. – On a recent call, the DuPage County NAACP president said he was absolutely stunned when one of his civil rights colleagues called migrants rapists and savages.
A county president for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is demanding the resignation of his state conference president on Tuesday.
Patrick Watson of the DuPage County says Teresa Haley of the Springfield branch should step down after stunning anti-migrant comments.
Watson says he recorded a Zoom call featuring Illinois NACCP branch presidents back in October.
“Black people have been on the streets forever and ever and nobody cares because they say that we’re drug addicts, we got mental health issues. But these immigrants have come over here, they’ve been raping people, they’ve been breaking into homes, they are like savages, as well.”
“Thinking of the rich history of the NAACP as an organization – it’s the oldest civil rights organization in the country and to have an Illinois state president engage in that type of rhetoric and that type of speech, I can’t imagine — I could have never imagined I would have heard that from a civil rights leader,” Watson said.
On Tuesday, Governor Pritzker condemned Haley’s comments.
“Reprehensible remarks. I would hope that she would apologize for the remarks. I also think that people should recognize that immigrants in this country are all around us,” Gov. Pritzker said.
Watson claims this is not the only time Haley has made offensive remarks. Although he does not have a recording, Watson says on another call Haley mocked the idea of people choosing the pronoun that fits them.
“Someone on that call, she said, they wanted her to call them ‘they, them, it, what the hell is that?” Watson said.
Watson says he’s contacted the NAACP’s National Board and they’re looking into the matter.
WGN-TV reached out Teresa Haley for comment and we’ve not heard back. Nexstar’s WCIA-TV, reports Haley is traveling overseas.
Meanwhile, to make a point, Watson says he’s resigning form the DuPage County NAACP.
“We’ve had immigrants who’ve been shot at, we’ve had immigrants who’ve been killed. We have had people who have been beaten up because of their immigration status, and enough is enough, it’s time to stand up and say no to hate.”
Watson said he’s leaving because he can no longer be part of an organization with Haley as the state leader.
Let this be a lesson. If you touch chili peppers that have been cut up, do not touch your eyes or the area around your eyes before washing your hands because oh my fuck it burns.
