A little * @midnight-moth * told me it was @alwaysjustmina ‘s birthday. It’s not much but I’d be remiss if I didn’t give you:
When Rain entered their room, it was dark, but his eyes spotted it right away.
Laid on his pillow, the silver chain, the sparkle of the stone, a shade he hadn’t seen before.
Swirling orange and blues. The teardrop shape of the stone delicate and elegant on the dainty chain.
His long fingertips reach out to touch it, the chain cold but the stone warmer than he expected. Smooth, glossy, and so brilliant even in the darkness of their room.
He gasps a little as he lifts it into his hand to admire it more.
Dew’s voice, soft from the partially open door, floats into his ears, “Do you like it?”
Rain turns to see Dew slip inside and close the door, leaving them in the soft glow of the moonlight that spills in through the window.
“I love it - it’s beautiful. The colors are…” he stops as he realizes the significance of the colors. His eyes fly up to Dew’s blue meeting orange.
“It’s a fire opal. It reminded me of….”
“Us” they say together, their minds so connected but still so able to surprise the other like this.
Rain smiles wide as he reaches to hug Dew and press a kiss to his lips.
“It’s your summoning day, and I wanted to give you something special.” Dew whispers against Rain’s neck as he nuzzles into it.
“It’s perfect, Dew. Will you help me put it on?” Rain asks, dangling the chain in front of Dew, eyes sparkling.
“Of course. Can you sit for me?”
Rain nods and perches on the end of their bed.
Dew kneels on the edge behind him to wrap his spindly fingers around to connect the chain and looks down over Rain’s shoulder to see it settle against his chest.
“It looks like a……” Rain pauses, then looks at the mirror in front of them, “RainDrop.” He finishes, reaching up to touch it again, as he realizes the significance. His eyes grow dark as he raises his gaze to meet his mate’s in the mirror.
Dew’s yelp of surprise echos around the room as Rain takes him down on the mattress, pinning Dew under him as he looms over the smaller ghoul, the pendant touching Dew’s chest from where it hangs between them.
Rain rumbles, low and deep in his chest, eyes flashing deep blue, fangs visible as he bends down to capture Dew’s mouth in a kiss that quickly turns heated, because after all, appreciation must be shown for such a gift, right?!
