if u had to pick a husband for nate that wasnt dan, who would ur top archibald husband pick be?
i think we'd need a new character tbh!! like. hot male guest star time. for the most part, other than nate and dan, all the men on that show are either cardboard characters like louis or gabriel, or shady/evil/predatory like ben or chuck. (chuck being nate's husband does feel possible within canon in some ways but i love nate too much for this to be even slightly desirable.)
i haven't actually answered your question tho sggdjgkkgl so within the limitations of the show.... carter, but like, if nate & carter had a proper arc that addresses the fact that carter essentially scammed nate and broke his heart (RIP).... carter would be such a good husband for him, but not in the queerplatonic marriage anarchy way i see him with serena - i like them having an actual, conventional, romantic dynamic, and having actual stability in their marriage.
it'd be cool if an older nate and carter need to work together for something (maybe serena needs help and they're the only two people who know about the situation) or maybe they end up being colleagues at a shitty retail job or get stranded on an island together or just. something that involves a lot of forced proximity. and then it's all just a big emotional mess, they start catching feelings for each other but they also hate each other but they're also taking care of each other because they both don't have anyone else to take care of them. if they actually work through what carter did to nate and how much that hurt nate, and come to respect each other, i think they could have a SOLID husband dynamic.
we'd need that whole arc of carter gaining nate's trust again, though, and of carter valuing nate and genuinely caring about nate's happiness and well-being.
