For writters
There’s a lot of stuff out there that provides help and tips for writters of all kind, from worldbuilding til self-publication, from fisical books written by world famous authors to people who just loves to tell stories. They’re all great and this are the ones I recomend not only because I watch/listen to them, but most importantly because they really help me. Not only on the specifics of writing, also on my life in general and as an artist.
Start with this - podcast
Jeffrey Cranor and Joseph Fink, the creators to Welcome to Night Vale talk about everything creative. From prose to theatre to audio dramas. The episodes are focused on one topic like “dialogue” or “feedback” and they give something to consume and something to create. A great way to literally start with something. One thing that I particulary loved was in the episode “playing games” where the asignment was playing a game, completing with a random word generator the frase “the moon is”. A very random but cool short story came out of that.
The self publishing show - podcast
Hosted by Mark Dawson who’s a best seller self-published author. He has guests almost every episode and talks about diferent things, from how to worldbuild to the benefits of ads. A great podcast for writters that want to become a indie (or self published) author.
Hello future me - youtube channel
One of my favorite youtubers, and he also has a book! He has a great series called “on writting” where he talks about A LOT of stuff. From how to write the first chapter or the prologue to how empires works. He’s great, I love him, and everyone who likes fantasy or sci-fi should see his videos. He’s also a huge Avatar the last airbender fan so he has a lot of videos of that too. I could’t buy his book yet because amazon doesn’t ship to my country directly but I definitly will when I get the chance.
Kate Cavanaugh - youtube channel
She’s an great (and very funny) writer vloger. She has a lot of videos where she tries diferent writing methodes and techniques, and also talk about publishing, editing, drafing, NaNoWriMo and basically everything a writters life looks like! Very funny and great to watch.
Wisecrack - youtube channel
Not a channel for writters specifically but they have a lot of very good videos analizing several movies and tv shows that can definitly be of interest of writing. I just love watching their videos and I think they’re great for plot analisys.
The hamilcast - podcast
Again, not a writing specific thing, it’s actually a Hamilton (the musical) podcast, BUT since they have cast members as guests, they alwals talking about creative journeys and diferent ways of making art and how art influences people lifes. Very inspirational and motivational, even if you’re not a big fan of Hamilton, is worth to listed just to be inspired by the stories of the people who come. Some of my favorites episodes are the ones with Lexi Lawson and Carvens Lissaint (he’s a poet).
Film theory/GT live - youtube channels
And the last one, again, another one that’s not writting specific but I just love them. They do theories on movies and tv series, very funny and very thougfull. On GT live they do livestreams where they usually play videogames but also talk about a lot of stuff. They very inspirational and I actually had a few ideas for stories while watching their theories.
