Skog Pavilion
A new Scandinavian law allowing homeowners to build small structures without permits has inspired Swedish architects Jägnefält Milton to propose a Forest Pavilion that dances between a tent and a permanent structure. The base, column and leaf-shaped lead roof are fixed components while the walls are polyurethane sheeting that is removable. The efficacy of the waterproof sheathing was selected because of its proven capabilities with bed-wetters.
The structure has a wooden platform with a patterned parquet floor that raises the base of the pavilion above the ground. According to the architects, all the timber needed for construction can be sourced during the site clearance.
The Berlin office of engineering firm Arup collaborated with Jägnefält Milton on the design of Forest Pavilion.
The architects have no client for it yet but if you’re thinking of a sweet little respite in the Swedish skog, the permit process will not get in the way.

A Forest Pavilion Stands in Taiwan
This new circular gathering space emerges from the ground in a series of eleven green bamboo shading vaults, organized in two rings around a void. The plan is inspired by the rings of a tree, and the different form of the vaults by growth patterns in nature. In the same way that the infinite variety of shapes in a tree emerge from very simple branching rules, the configuration of vault shapes uses a single geometry, the parabolic arch, in a way that could in theory generate endless configurations.
