This was probably the dumbest idea she'd ever had.
It was a random thought, one that wouldn't leave her head. But Rose had been kind, even charitable in her help! It didn’t feel right to just leave it there. After days of sitting on the idea, she’d finally mustered the courage to pass a note to the bouncer one night, urging him to hand it to Rose before immediately leaving the entrance of the Blue Velvet Lounge. Parts of the note had been frantically scratched out as she’d tried to think over what to say, but the resulting message was hopefully still legible.
‘Hey, Rose. It’s Val! Finally got my place all set up if you ever wanted to drop by and visit. Old pool hall called The Cove. There’s a back entrance to the basement, and I'm up for company tomorrow. The choice is yours.’
But now it was the following night, and she was already frantically pacing back and forth. It was stupid, really damn stupid to even suggest they get together so soon! She’d barely had time to run to the nearest store to buy… something, anything to make her ‘home’ feel more appealing than it already was. Compared to the Lounge, her own place was sparse, barely decorated! It felt more like a bunker than a living space, the more she thought about it.
And the more she thought, the more Val could imagine the different ways this meeting would go wrong.
