I was reading your post about status ailments and how they relate to persona based off of the persona user's personality (as an offshoot question of the ask about Mitsuru's ice affinity description) and I was wondering about how Naoto's affinity towards poison would be a part of her personality. Any ideas? on that matter, what would define almighty, @ how would almighty affinity play into her personality as well? I hope this isn't too much to ask, but I need some help with intuitive leaps ^^;
She has an affinity towards poison? *checks wiki* Huh, she does learn Blight, which has a chance of causing Poison in Vanilla P4, right... But it looks like that was removed from her move-set in P4G, so I’m not sure what to make of it. I don’t remember ever using that move with her, so I guess that’s why I didn’t remember... But since Blight only causes Poison as a bonus rather than it being the main purpose of the skill, I’d see it as an incidental trait that doesn’t play too heavily into her personality. Poison is often associated with cunning wit and finesse (since it’s a silent, indirect way of killing someone), so maybe Naoto’s intelligence plays into it? But again, I find that one skill negligible enough.
“Almighty” in the SMT franchise is actually meant to mean spells that are “all purpose and/or omnipotent”, magic that falls outside the element system and is thus not hindered or helped by elemental affinities. The Japanese term used for these spells, “bannou” most literally means “all functions”, as in it has the function of all elements, but without their advantages and disadvantages. That’s why I find this one pretty hard to categorize in what it means in a Persona, since, well... It’s basically just “destructive move that is unrelated to elemental affinities, yet isn’t a melee move either”. In Naoto’s case, I tend to think her Almighty skills are supposed to play into the balance themes with her character; Just like how she masters both, Hama and Mudo Moves (= Yang & Yin), but doesn’t have the SP pool to use the full potential of either, her affinity of with Almighty moves makes her a skilled spell-caster, but she has none of the advantages or disadvantages that other spell-casters have. She’s just... in the middle. That’s how I’d interpret it.
