I understand if there’s Daniel fans upset about Mclaren’s alleged team orders but we all have to understand that Mclaren’s fight is vs. Ferrari. They will do whatever to maximize their points to grow a distance over the Scuderia.

In Barcelona Lando didn’t fight Daniel for position bc Daniel’s tyres were in a better condition and he was on a better strategy, and IIRC Daniel was defending from Carlos at that moment.

Today we’ve seen how badly tyres were after a few laps and Lando had 8-10-laps fresher tyres than the rest of the midfield, that’s how he got to overtake so many people in so little laps, and this is also how Perez could overtake Bottas at the end, as he was on a similar strategy.

When Lando was closing in Daniel it was obvious that it was going to be an inminent overtake to happen and Daniel knew that. It’s way easier to let your teammate pass than fight for your position and end up with one or two cars damaged when you’re putting such a point-difference on Ferrari. Daniel knows he’s improving and in other races it will be the other way around, like it was in Barcelona. At the end Lando nearly had a 10-second advantage on Daniel after overtaking him in lap 34 thanks to the different strategy and fresher tyres.

Another important thing: Daniel was today the car with the better position on track so he got the Plan A, which was pitting earlier to undercut Gasly and gaining an advantage, he ended up undercutting more than one car so it went well. If they had stopped Lando a lap later he would have lost position to the whole midfield so they tried the Plan B, which worked better than the Plan A, but if Lando were the car in front, he would have got that first strategy.

Daniel is getting better and better with the car and his pace today proved that, that’s the real important thing from today’s race. I’m sure he’s gonna be a beast for the rest of the season.
