Thinking about KH-IV and possible canon soriku stuff and, while I'd be fucking STOKED (and admittedly enjoying a bit of schadenfreude @ the people who were very unkind to soriku shippers wrt the paopu scene), I am also really not looking forward to when the inevitable 'if you still ship s*kai after this, you're homophobic!!!' takes start coming out.
(This post got longer than I'd like, so the rest under the cut)
Like. I don't like s*kai. I don't ship it and I actively have the word and tag muted on here so I don't have to see it. But it's still just. Like. Fake people. I don't care what people do with the characters in their own spaces as long as they're chill with other people doing whatever in THEIR own spaces.
The problem with people making canonical gay* characters straight in fanworks really ISN'T the act itself, it's the insistence that you changed it to 'fix' it. That there was something WRONG with it and you're correcting it. If you just prefer to imagine them straight and don't force that on other people (and no, making fic or art and posting it with appropriate tags is NOT forcing it on anybody) there's literally nothing wrong with that.
(*Of course it's also not as if 'gay' is the only option for either of these two specific characters to be ANYWAY, bisexuality exists! As do MANY other identities that would still see them canonically in a relationship. I'm partial to demisexual Riku, myself, yknow?)
Besides, they're Nomura's characters, not ours, so ALL of our takes/fic/art are just headcanons ANYWAY - supported by ACTUAL canon or not.
