I thought it was interesting that House doesn't have any lips, and brought up so many questions about its shell!!
Is its shell hard all over, aside from the fleshy parts that poke out? If so, is it hard like bone, or firm but flexible like cartilage? It looks like bone but it also looks potentially a little flexible and you said it bursts open or falls apart when it's excited so I'm really intrigued here.
Also is its "shell" just referring to the outer casing, not the tentacles we see poking out, or is the shell more like, "a shell of a person"?
Thank you in advance!
Thank you so much for the questions!! These were fun to answer :D
Nope, the shell isn’t hard! Home’s shell has a strange layer of skin that contains and covers all the gooey bits of it. The skin feels quite cold and clammy usually, but when it gets flustered the skin turns a lot warmer and the system of veins will make its skin a lot redder/pinker rather than its usual blotchy purple look, like in the pic above! It doesn’t have much actual fatty flesh, hence the very bony look that Home has.
The skin feels a lot like rubber though, like, really thin rubber. You could poke it and it would feel like it’s gonna split and tear open, but it won’t. The only thing that ruptures Home’s skin is its innards going out when it gets unstable! Those endless, endless guts and tentacles…
The “shell” refers to the outer casing though, yeah! Since Home’s true form is the ever-expanding fleshscape that you and its shell (and other various beasts…) reside in, it had to make its interpretation of a cute lil’ human for it to interact with you safely. It’s made entirely from materials within Home’s true form because it wants you to fall in love with a human-like shell made from it and it only. Not some amalgamation of other humans mish-mashed into a shell. Just Home.
