Great Glen Way: día 0
The Great Glen Way: stage 0
The idea of this trip was to do something different and get as far north as possible. During my research I found several trips in the Scottish Highlands until I found the Great Glen Way. This route takes you through the lakes between Fort William and Inverness. It can be walk in around 5-7 days, but I decided to cycle it in 3 days.
Getting there and preparations
My trip started in Leeds. First, get to Edinburgh by an early train, then 2 coaches to Glasgow and Fort William. Once there I had enough time to walk around, buy snacks for the first leg and have a meal (a really nice haggis).
Bringing my bike was not an option (or so I thought at the time) because it was not good enough for this kind of trip and I did not know if it could be carried in the coaches. So I searched for a way to rent the bike in one end and drop it in the other, and found that Nevis Cycles offered this kind of service. Included in the price was a water bottle and a map. The bike is rented with lock, pump and puncture kit, so the only thing I had to bring was my helmet.
Although I started planning this trip with enough time, it was difficult to find accommodation in mid-September. Fort William and Inverness were the easiest ones to find. In Fort William I had booked a bed in a shared room at the Fort William Backpackers hostel. Most of my roommates were looking forward to climb Ben Nevis, while I was preparing for cycling the 125 km of the way.
