Cincinnati drops to 4-6-2-0 against Toledo in the regular season series. Three Cyclones forwards made their pro debuts and made a quick impact in the 1st period. After Toledo took a double-minor penalty, Cincinnati scored twice in the span of 34 seconds. Noah Kane fed Remy Parker in the slot, who went upstairs for his first professional goal. Moments later, Nick Isaacson spun in a rebound past John Lethemon to double the lead. The Walleye rallied for a pair of goals in the 2nd frame to tie the game 2-2. First, Brandon Hawkins combined on a give-and-go with Mitch Lewandowski to score his 34th of the year. With 1:26 to go in the period, Chase Gresock beat Rylan Parenteau from the far side. In the 3rd period, Toledo got its first lead of the game when Sam Craggs converted on an odd-man rush. The Walleye pushed the advantage to 4-2 with Brandon Hawkins’ second goal of the game, which came on the power play. With the goaltender pulled, Lincoln Griffin got the Cyclones back within a goal in his first game back from injury. John Lethemon finished with 24 saves in the win, while Rylan Parenteau stopped 37 shots in the loss. Up next, Cincinnati heads back to the Heritage Bank Center for a four-game homestand. JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Icemen, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Travis Howe for the 2022-2023 season. Howe, 28, returns to Jacksonville, where he registered 11 points (3g, 8a) with 119 penalty minutes in 41 games played last season. In addition, Howe scored a goal with 14 penalty minutes in eight postseason appearances this past spring. During the 2020-21 season, Howe recorded four points (1g, 3a) and 55 penalty minutes in 21 games split between the Icemen and the Fort Wayne Komets. In total, the 6-4, 235-pound winger has accrued 42 points (15g, 27a) with 824 penalty minutes in 213 ECHL contests split between the Icemen, Komets, Utah Grizzlies, and Greenville Swamp Rabbits from 2016-2022. "We're excited to have Travis back this season," said Icemen Head Coach Nick Luukko. "His game took tremendous strides last season, not from just the enforcer role, but he elevated his game to being more of a complete player. We look forward to him building on that again this season." Howe made one appearance with the American Hockey League's Tucson Roadrunners during the 2018-19 season. KEELEY: RYAN CULKIN RECALLED TO LAVAL
Dynamic defenseman earns AHL call BY: Michael Keeley, Maine Mariners ST. JOHN’S, NL – February 17, 2020 – Defenseman Ryan Culkin was recalled to the AHL’s Laval Rocket on Monday. Culkin, who is under contract with the Rocket, gets his second call up of the season, having previously appeared in one game for the Rocket in November. The 26-year-old defenseman from Montreal, QC is on pace for a career season with the Mariners, currently leading all Maine defenseman in scoring with 32 points (7 goals, 25 assists) in 43 games. He ranks 10th among all ECHL defensemen in scoring and is 2nd among defenseman in power play points. Last season for the Mariners, Culkin registered 22 points in 39 games. His career-best mark came in 2017-18 with the Fort Wayne Komets, when he had 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in 53 games. Culkin has been under contract with the Rocket since the start of the last season and has played 11 games for them, with one goal and eight penalty minutes. Earlier this season, he was recalled on November 25th, appeared in one game, and was returned to Maine on December 19th. In total, Culkin has played in 94 career AHL games including stints with the Adirondack Flames and Stockton Heat in addition to Laval. The Mariners resume their series in Newfoundland with games on Tuesday and Wednesday, both beginning at 5:30 PM ET. After the road trips wraps up at Adirondack next Saturday, the Mariners will be back home on Sunday, February 23rd for “Miracle Night,” celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice at 3 PM against the Growlers. The Mariners will be wearing Team USA inspired jerseys, which will go up for auction starting January 12th on the Handbid App. There will also be a postgame screening of the Disney movie on the video board. Newcomer to the lineup injects center depth to Swamp Rabbits BY: Jordan Kuhns, Greenville Swamp Rabbits GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Greenville Swamp Rabbits have added a new face to the club with the signing of Mason Baptista to a Standard Player Contract for the 2019–20 season. Baptista was acquired as future considerations in the deal that sent Sean Flanagan to Fort Wayne. Baptista, 29, has split his career between the ECHL and the second division of the DEL, Germany's professional league. The playmaking center has posted 143 points in 231 games at the ECHL level (62-81) with the Quad City Mallards, the Wichita Thunder, and the Fort Wayne Komets. "Mason is a player we targeted as having the potential to significantly improve our team, and he will with his ability to play in all situations," said head coach Kevin Kerr. "He brings a coach's mentality to the game. He will be a very valuable piece to our club next season." The longtime pro played his collegiate career with a Division III powerhouse, St. Norbert College. While with the Green Knights, he was part of two championship squads and three Frozen Four appearances overall. Baptista had the honor of being a second-team All-American, and an All-Conference selection. His skillset includes being a playmaking center who can play in all situations, as he played significant time on the power play and penalty kill in Fort Wayne and was part of a club that drove eventual Kelly Cup champion Colorado to a seventh game two seasons ago in the Western Conference Final. Baptista's last two seasons in the ECHL have seen him put up a .798 points-per-game average.
