So I just have a question, is it normal for your face to seem a bit darker than your neck? I've gone to several sephora stores for help with foundation and while all of them blend well in the store I feel like when I'm outside it looks darker. Even when I get a shade lighter than what they recommend. I'm not sure if maybe I'm just being too self conscious.
Hi, there!
This could either be an issue with the lighting inside looking different than outside, the foundation not being blended well down the neck, the foundation being the wrong colour or it could be oxidising. Check:
- are your face and neck different shades to begin with? if so, you’ll want to pick a foundation colour in between, so it blends better.
- does it seem darker after a while? If the makeup is oxidising in the air, it naturally gets darker, so you’ll want to find one that either doesn’t oxidise or pick something a few shades lighter so it’ll oxidise into the correct shade.
- check in the natural light and then indoors again. the lights inside sephora are optimised for makeup which doesn’t do you any good when you step outside and your foundation looks wrong. if you can, go back in and explain your problem. they might be able to come and colour match you outside.
- make sure that the foundation is properly blended down your neck. use any excess on your sponge or brush for this, don’t get out any more product or you’ll end up taking it too far down. just blend until you run out of product and then make sure to powder.
It could just be that you’re focusing too closely on it, especially now that it’s happened a few times, but makeup’s for your comfort and if you’re feeling self conscious because of it then it defeats the point. Maybe bring up this issue next time you go in if you haven’t already, since they can see IRL what the problem is, or do some trial and error in your own home, outside in the natural light. If nothing works, you could always find a lighter shade that specifically matches your neck and use it as an in between colour to blend between the face and neck.
Hope this helped! If not, feel free to message again.
