Season 4, Episode 1 – This week on the show, we’re sittin’ around the campfire and drinking smoked beers!

Welcome to 2017! In preparation for the possible fiery end of the United States of America as we know it (kidding…), we’re prepping by drinking some classic smoked and rauch beers, as well some beers from 4B listener, Andy Richter.

Rauchbier and smoked beers in general can be polarizing, especially in the case of the four hosts of this very podcast. Matt and Greg absolutely love the smokey and peat characteristics of the brew, while Jason and John tend to stay away from the style for the most part. It’s a style that represents what beer in the days of old tasted and smelled like.

We take a “smoke break” half-way through the episode and drink some funky and fruity beers from Perennial Artisan Ales sent to us by 4B listener Andy Richter.

Episode 206 – This week on the show, meads from Superstition Meadery.

I feel the need…the need for mead! That’s right! This week on the show, Jason muled back some really, really good (and expesive) mead (honey wine) from Superstition Meadery out of Arizona. In addition to the mead, Jason also threw in a blueberry cider (interesting) made by Superstition. Oh mead, oh my!

Mead is a first for us on the show, and after having experienced it, we can safely say that it is definitely worth trying if you ever get the opportunity. It’s a nice break from beer, and you can expand your palate to new flavors.

Season 4, Episode 30 – This week, 4B listener Nick Krenz makes our Prost dreams come true.

The time has finally come. We’re finally here, all thanks to Four Brewers listener Nick Krenz. This week, we finally have Prost Brewing beers on the show. What a glorious day!

Ok, that was a tad hyperbolic. But, we are extremely excited to finally have some of the best German-style beers made in America on the show, from none other than Prost Brewing out of Denver, Colorado.

As we mentioned, the beers this week were provided to us by 4B listener Nick Krenz. After he heard us gushing about Prost and wishing that we could get our hands on their beers, Nick emailed us and offered to send some of their beers our way. Nick didn’t disappoint, either…

We can’t recommend Prost Brewing enough. If they’re available in your local market or if you’re ever in the Denver area, do yourself a favor and stop in for a litre or two…or, three…

Season 4, Episode 16 – This week, some tasty lager from Sudwerk, and hoppy IPA from El Segundo.

Sudwerk and El Segundo Brewing are two breweries that have found a special, warm place in our collective 4B hearts. On today’s episode, we’re featuring beers from both breweries, ranging from gose, to doppelbock, to IPA. Variety is the spice of life, after all..

We kick off the show this week with a journey into the 4B mailbag while sampling some hand-delivered brews from Davis, California’s Sudwerk Brewing Co, and answer listener questions about Belgian beer, the Craft Brewers Conference, and Micheladas, of all things.

We wrap up the episode with an experiment of sorts with El Segundo Brewing Company‘s first three IPAs in their Bursted Hop series of beers, all of which focus on one type of hop that was added exclusively at the end of the boil in the brewing process, rather than at two or three different stages.

Big thanks as always to the fine folks at Sudwerk for hooking us up, yet again. We’ve got nothin’ but love for yas.

4B Special – John sat down with Andy Black to talk about his new brewery, Yorkshire Square Brewery.

Yorkshire Square Brewery will soon be Torrance, California’s newest craft brewery when their soft opening happens on April 19. John got the opportunity to sit down with Andy Black, Yorkshire Square Brewery’s Head Brewer, to talk about their place in the Los Angeles beer scene, their vision as a brewery, and his passion and love for cask ale.

We can’t thank the crew at Yorkshire Square Brewery for having us down to check out their new digs. There were only three beers on tap at the time of this recording, but needless to say, they were all so delicious. John also got to try a hoppy brown ale and a double dry hopped golden ale fresh from the tanks, and of course they were the bomb (sans porch).
