New idea: where vampires lose there memories when they turn (like in catsafari's amazing tabula rasa au, where the only way to get them back is to drink the blood of those who knew you), it's only fair that they also lose their memories of being a vampire when they're cured, no? So all that's left of them is who they were before.
Now imagine, if you will, Owen, deciding to choose curing over death by some twist of fate (maybe as one last act to spite the doctor, letting his rage win over his need for oblivion; it's easier to die as a human anyway). The last things he remembers is Louis putting him to sleep, promising to be at his side when he wakes up. But he's standing at a tower, and there's someone he doesn't know next to him decked out in silver armour shield in hand, and the first thing Owen can ask (the only thing he can think about, really) is "Where's Louis?"
How much do you think Abolish would tell him, in that moment? He'd have to explain the vampirism, of course, how they've been trapped here for months now, that Louis' gone, but does he tell Owen of the pyre? Does he tell Owen that it's been 200 years? Does Abolish tell Owen that he's the reason Oakhurst is in ruins, that no one's dared settle in again?
