He recognized her immediately.
Apart from the brief encounter he had had with her those months ago, Sage was still a nebulous entity in Shadow's life. Truthfully, maybe part of him had been avoiding her. His relationship with Metal Sonic was annoying enough, defined too much by nebulous space and programming and weaponry and the shape of an amorphous free will that was triumphed over again and again, subjugated in the name of 'pursuing Sonic.' Sage was not Metal Sonic, but the Doctor wasn't one to repeat past mistakes. The AI girl may have been gifted a different personality, but the gap remained the same as it did with Metal Sonic. The two of them did not have Maria's heart or that soul Gerald Robotnik wished for his creations to have; Ivo Robotnik did not believe in such things.
But that said, the Doctor's affection for Sage, however, was markedly different from the one he had with the metallic Sonic doppelganger. Going out of his way to delineate their relationship as familial; Metal Sonic could not be inundated with feelings like that beyond thinking of the Doctor as his absolute ruler and creator--but not a father. Shadow cast his gaze up at Sage from where he was standing behind the server computer that he was preparing to hack into. "Keeping an eye out for your father?" While he dared not hope for some positive explanation about it--he wasn't naive like that--it was ultimately different for Ivo Robotnik. "If you've come to get in my way, you know who I am, so don't waste my time by making boring requests like telling me to leave. Make your point or go."

It's easy to forget that Sage is a child, at the end of the day. A super AI that is assuredly smarter than Olympia could ever hope to be, perhaps, but a child nonetheless. It's why the hedgehog can't particularly blame her for the interruption, even as she had almost ran clear into a wall in surprise at the AI suddenly being beside her. That's what she got for having a phone now, she guesses...

Another downside of Olympia's new life: a job. At least it was one that meant she had a lot of wiggle room between food pick-ups and deliveries, but the bag on her back gives away that she was currently mid-dash.
