I've been traveling in Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois over the past week and didn't really find time to post much. - I decided to pull some photos from the archives for this post. These are from my 2015 shoot with Erica Bitting. I have never been able to share an entire artist's promotional photoshoot on social media since I take 750-2,000 shots on most shoots. These are photos I've never shared before. It's been good looking back through some older sessions to see the ways I've either changed or stayed the same stylistically. - As part of my summer portrait project, I asked Erica: If the childhood version of yourself could meet you now, what would you think of yourself? Here's what she had to say: - "I think my childhood version of myself is not far under the surface. I carry her close to my heart. I suppose she would be proud of who I am now – the grief and heartbreak I’ve overcome and the way I push myself out of my comfort zone daily. I think she would be surprised to know what I study, where I live and where I work now. I had no concept of a big city like Atlanta having grown up in a tiny village in northeast Ohio. She would be proud of the relationships I have made and the way I have matured. I think she would see that I am still the sensitive, introverted, joyful, dreamer I was when I was young. I think if she could meet me, she would be less fearful about the future and trust the process of growing. Just because our circumstances, our bodies, our theology, our families, our friends and our opinions change, doesn’t mean we ever lose who we are. The essence of who we are is God-given.
