I've been feeling a bit nostalgic. I've been enjoying some of Slumberland's post-hibernation releases - Cause Co-Motion, Liechtenstein, and Brown Recluse all had 2009 releases that stand the test of time.
Liechtenstein's "Survival Strategies In a Modern World" particularly stands out. They were an all-female Swedish group (Gothenburg) that had harmonies and melodies that recall The Aislers Set, Electrelane, and later bands like Susan. But, I also listen to Liechtenstein and think of the influence that Barbara Manning must have had on the band. The Pitchfork review also mentions Dolly Mixture and Tallulah Gosh.
One member of Liechtenstein later joined Skiftande Enheter. Modern Slumberland artists like Jeanines continue to carry the torch for this strikingly catchy, short pop songs.
"Survival Strategies In A Modern World" was co-released with Swedish label Fraction Discs.
