The first circle
Virgil explained that those here are the ones who were lustful and sought out what they couldn’t have. I recognized quite a few figures from my history studies - Helen, Cleopatra, Achilles - and even got a chance to speak with a pair of sinners who, in sinning together, were eternally bonded to endure the same punishment.
The two souls were Paolo and Francesca. My heartstrings were pulled taught as I listened to their sorry tale. In fact, I must have fainted some point after speaking with them as I am writing this in the second circle (Virgil is watching over me). I know I said I would harden my heart, but ... no. No buts. I will keep trying to be more like Virgil.
