project hail mary and the reception of it in fandom spaces genuinely gives me so much hope for my future as an aroace person. we have a character who has no people close to him, who “doesn’t even have a dog” and that’s okay. he saved the damn world. i think that we as a society should place less emphasis on typical paths (getting married, having kids, etc) and just focus on who we are as people. sometimes braveness comes from within, and i think that phm did a lovely job of showcasing that.
the concept of simon calling ryland angel and ryland calling him starlight
bloodymary “i heard they’re shipping us! to where?!” but it’s grace saying “i heard they’re… SHIPPING US?!?!” and him and simon screaming “TO WHERE?!?!?!”
bloodymary but the highest praise one can be given on eden is being called a star or a savior, brave, etc with ryland grace who just throws these terms around and calls simon all sorts of terms of endearment and slowly makes him feel like he actually matters
