Lightning Kills Entire Football Team

An unconfirmed case of an entire football team being killed in the Congo occurred in October, 1998. All 11 members of a football team were killed by lightning which left the other team unhurt. The home team, Bena Tshadi were mid match and drawing 1-1 with visiting team Basanga when the lightning killed the team of 11 20-35 year olds. 30 spectators were injuries, none life threateningly.

Witchcraft and black magic are often blamed for strange occurrences and it is common for football teams to hire witchdoctors to curse opponents, many locals suspected magic to be involved.
