Nougayork is quite an unusual song in french Pop history. While many famous (and not so famous) French acts had a try at the "in sound" of their times, few strayed too far from what their audience knew them for. Claude Nougaro, a crooner with a highly respected jazz background, went to New York in the 80s and captured the sound that was then beating the heart of the city. Mixing his trademark French chanson rhymes, with bonafide electronic Freestyle sounds, he created something totally unique, and of his own. Nougayork went surprisingly massive, and became his biggest success in France.
