My No-Spend Weekend: Fun, Free Things to Do Alone
If you’ve ever looked at your bank account on a Friday and thought, “Well, guess I’m not going out this weekend…”, you’re not alone.
Been there, done that, and actually? I kinda love it now.
I’ve started giving myself little “no-spend weekends”, where I challenge myself to have fun without swiping my card once.
It’s like a mini adventure in creativity and simplicity. Here’s what my typical no-spend solo weekend looks like, maybe you’ll steal a few ideas!
1. Nature Walk + Podcast Combo
I lace up my sneakers and head to my local park or nature trail.
I’ll download a couple podcast episodes or an audiobook, free library apps like Libby are a lifesaver!
Instant mental reset, zero dollars spent.
2. Free Library or Bookstore Browsing
No money changes hands, but I get the cozy vibe of being surrounded by books.
I’ll spend an hour reading new cookbooks, travel guides, or just people-watching.
Bonus: many libraries now host free weekend events like workshops or film screenings.
I treat myself to a DIY spa day, think long bath, skincare routine, fresh sheets on the bed, and journaling.
Sometimes I’ll rearrange a corner of my room to freshen things up, all for free.
4. Free Streaming + Popcorn Night
Between free trials and free ad-supported apps, there’s always something to watch.
I make stovetop popcorn, grab my coziest blanket, and binge something guilt-free, because hey, it cost nothing!
5. Declutter Something Small
Okay, maybe this doesn’t sound “fun,” but clearing out a drawer or shelf feels so satisfying.
I play music, light a candle, and sort things into “keep, donate, trash.”
It’s my way of hitting reset for free.
Turns out, you don’t need to spend big to feel good.
My no-spend weekends make me appreciate simple pleasures, fresh air, good stories, a cozy space, and remind me that fun doesn’t have to cost a cent.
So, next time your wallet says “please, no more,” try a no-spend weekend.
You might just love it.
